Subject Pre-requisites

To be eligible for your program of study, you must have achieved the pre-requisite study at a level comparable to Australian Year 12 or in recognised post-secondary studies.

What is a 'Subject Pre-requisite'?

A subject prerequisite is part of the minimum entry requirements for a program. Subject pre-requisites are expressed as a passing grade at a level comparable to Australian Year 12. For example 'Maths B' indicates that the Queensland Studies Authority subject 'Maths B' (or equivalent) must have been studied in senior high school and an overall passing grade or better obtained.

Please view the program details for specific subject pre-requisites for your desired program.

Mature Age

Mature age students (21 years of age and over) may be admitted into a program without meeting the formal academic requirements if you have relevant work experience and/or other acceptable qualifications.

Academic Entry Requirements

Griffith College requires you to have completed Australian year 12 (or equivalent) to qualify for entry into a Diploma program. You don't need to have achieved a particular grade or studied specific subjects at school to apply for any of our Diploma programs however we assume that you have a minimum level of knowledge in certain subject areas before you start your program. This is called Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study. The table below details the Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study requirements for each Griffith College Diploma program.

Unlike prerequisite subjects, if you do not have the Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study you will not be prevented from receiving an offer into the Diploma program. However, you should be aware that if you do not have the Assumed Knowledge and Recommended Study you may experience difficulty with some aspects of the program. You are therefore recommended to complete some Bridging Subjects to acquire this knowledge.

Q: I don't have the Assumed Knowledge for my program

A: If you don't have the Assumed Knowledge for your Diploma program we recommend you enrol in our free Bridging Subjects in addition to your Diploma program.

Q: How much Assumed Knowledge do I need?

A: We recommend that you have knowledge equivalent to four semesters at high school (Year 11 & Year 12) with a passing grade or better.

Q: I didn't complete Year 12 in Queensland

A: Check the Assumed Knowledge equivalencies table on our website here.

Bridging Subjects for Diploma Programs

View our Griffith College Bridging Subjects Fact Sheet

Bridging Subjects are offered to Griffith College Diploma Australian students absolutely free... and you can still complete your Diploma in just one year!

What are Bridging Subjects?

Bridging subjects are available to you if you do not possess the pre-requisite (or "need to have") knowledge for your Diploma program. They are studied in addition to your Diploma subjects and are completed in your first semester.

Why would I need to take a Bridging Subject?

Griffith College assumes you have the required knowledge to succeed in your Diploma (e.g. Maths B for Engineering). If you do not have the required knowledge, you can still enrol in the Diploma or you can undertake one of our FREE Bridging Subjects in your first semester of study. If you do not have the assumed knowledge and you do not undertake a Bridging Subject, you may experience difficulty with some aspects of the course.

How many Bridging Subjects can I study and at what cost?

For programs which list multiple Assumed Knowledge requirements, e.g. "English and one of Biological Science, Chemistry, Physics or Maths B"; students may elect to enrol in two free Bridging Subjects (e.g. English + Maths B; or English + Chemistry). Any additional subjects will be at your own expense.

Can I still complete my Diploma program in 12 months?

Yes! You can complete the Bridging Subject/s at the same time as enrolling in some subjects from your Diploma. We recommend that you take a reduced study-load in your first semester (i.e. 3 subjects or less) and schedule your study across all three semesters in the calendar year. This will increase your chances of success.
