What happens at orientation?

It's your chance to complete some important tasks, learn a whole lot, and have fun while meeting fellow students. 

Orientation Schedule

Day 1:

  • Registration, then you’ll be placed in a group
  • Meet ICM staff
  • Obtain program information and get information about your medical insurance
  • Ice-breaker activities
  • ICM Passport Race, where you will:
    • Obtain a student ID card
    • Be introduced to ICM and the University of Manitoba services and facilities
    • Tour the campus
    • Meet new friends and ICM staff – touring the campus

Day 2:

  • Opportunity to revise your online course registration
  • Homestay presentations
  • English Language Centre (ELC) and Intensive English Program (IEP) workshop
  • Winners of the ICM Passport Race announced
  • Afternoon of off-campus activities, in the past these have included:
    • Skating at the Forks - TheForks.com
    • Bowling
    • Sporting activities at Assiniboine Park
    • Shopping at Polo Park or St. Vital Centre
  • Each orientation, more than 40 ICM students volunteer to welcome newcomers and share their experiences

  • In January 2012, at orientation ICM welcomed new students from more than 25 different countries

  • In January 2012, there were more Pakistani students than any other country

All new ICM students must attend orientation – ICM staff and experienced students will be there to help
Orientation is a two-day introduction to life at ICM and in Winnipeg!
It’s a great way to get comfortable when you arrive, become more prepared to start your studies, and to start making friends
