Your child is here

Stage 1

Feel at home in Canada!

Being away from home can be difficult. Your child may miss their family, the food, clothes, festivals and maybe even the smell of the streets. We have compiled a list of ways your child can feel at home without actually having to leave Canada.

Canada’s migrant population makes up 20.6% of their total population. There are currently 6,775,800 foreign born people living in Canada and 1,165,145 of those are Indian. British Columbia is home to the largest Indian population in Canada with 6.5% of the Indian population residing there. Manitoba also holds a significant number of Indian residents with 2.8% of the Indian-Canadian population calling Winnipeg home. This large presence of Indian’s will mean your child will have access to a large number of food stores, events and community support groups during their time in Canada.

Indian Communities

One in five people in Canada are foreign born. In order to stay connected with their culture some Indians have created associations to keep the community together in Canada. The associations offer support, advice and information for Indians in Canada. Make sure your child checks out some of the ones listed below!

  • Indian Canada Association
  • India Canada Cultural Association
  • Canada India Network Society
Religion

Whether your child is Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or a Sikh, Canada will welcome them with open arms offering the facilities and support they need to follow their religion.

Christianity is Canada’s main religion. If your child is Christian they will have no problem finding a church in their denomination, a school, publication, television show or radio station. Please keep in mind that all Navitas associated universities offer prayer facilities, services, bible study groups, counselling and social Christian groups to Navitas students.

Islam is Canada’s second highly practiced religion, closely followed by Judaism, Buddhism, Hindu and Sikh. If your child follows any of these religions they will find a large number of worship places, doctors, schools and publications available in Canada.
